Our Spirulina Foaming Bath Butter Cleanser is gentle enough for everyday cleansing of the face and body while creating the thick, luxurious lather our Foaming Bath Butters are known for. This rich, whipped cleanser produces a dense, bubbly foam that leaves skin feeling thoroughly cleansed, refreshed, and cared for.

This formula takes our signature Bee Venom Foaming Bath Butter base and infuses it with Spirulina Extract, one of nature’s most distinctive blue-green algae ingredients. It is also formulated with Snow Mushroom Polysaccharides, Vitamin E, Buckwheat Honey, Royal Jelly, Bee Venom, Propolis Extract, and Pollen Extract, bringing together algae, mushroom polysaccharides, and ingredients from the beehive in one unique cleanser.

WHAT IS SPIRULINA?

Spirulina is a naturally occurring blue-green microorganism commonly referred to as a microalgae. Its intense color comes in large part from natural pigments such as phycocyanin, the brilliant blue pigment for which Spirulina is especially well known.

Spirulina contains a complex mixture of naturally occurring compounds, including pigments, amino acids, proteins, carotenoids, phenolic compounds, fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, and other bioactive components. Because of this unusually rich composition, Spirulina has become an increasingly studied ingredient in cosmetic and skin-care formulations.

But Spirulina isn’t included in this bath butter simply because it looks amazing.

Research into Spirulina and its naturally occurring compounds has found antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity, two properties that have made it particularly interesting in skin-care research. Antioxidants help defend against oxidative stress caused by free radicals—one of the processes associated with environmental skin stress and visible aging.

Spirulina’s blue pigment, phycocyanin, has received particular attention for its antioxidant activity. Laboratory research involving human skin cells has shown that certain phycocyanin preparations can help reduce oxidative stress in fibroblasts and keratinocytes exposed to chemical or UVA-related stress.

Spirulina has also been studied for its effects on fibroblasts and keratinocytes, two important types of cells involved in the structure and renewal of skin. Research has explored its potential relationship with cellular proliferation, extracellular-matrix activity, and collagen production—making Spirulina an especially exciting ingredient in modern cosmetic formulations.

Other research has investigated Spirulina-containing topical formulations for their potential to support the appearance of healthy, more even-looking and revitalized skin.

What makes this formula especially unique is that Spirulina doesn’t stand alone.

We’ve combined it with Tremella Fuciformis Polysaccharides — our Snow Mushroom Polysaccharides — along with Vitamin E and a collection of ingredients straight from the beehive, including:

The texture is almost like whipped cream, but add water and a little goes a surprisingly long way.

Work a small amount into a wet loofah, sponge, or bath gloves and it transforms into a rich, bubbly lather that can be used on the face, body, scalp, and hair.

And yes—the striking blue appearance is part of what makes Spirulina so much fun to use. But underneath that color is an ingredient with a fascinating composition and a growing body of cosmetic research behind it.

DIRECTIONS

The first time you use this product, we recommend applying a small amount to a section of your arm first.

For regular use, massage a small amount onto a wet loofah, sponge, or bath gloves to create a generous lather. Massage onto the scalp/hair, face, and body.

For a deeper cleansing experience, allow the lather to remain on the skin for 1–2 minutes if desired, then rinse thoroughly with water.

A little goes a long way — this formula gets very bubbly and produces lots of foam!
